DVD • The apocalypse is nigh for Dodge (Steve Carell) and Penny (Keira Knightley), the main characters in the romantic comedy "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," and writer-director Lorene Scafaria isn't sugar-coating things in this sweetly melancholy film.

When it's learned that an asteroid will obliterate the Earth, Dodge decides to find the former love of his life — and enlists the flighty Penny, who's looking for a plane ride home to England — to help find her, encountering other people as they cope with the planet's impending doom.

The episodic tale has laughs and thoughtful romance, as it reminds us that it's literally never too late to fall in love. —
