Utah's Past Freshmen Starting QBs and the results in their debutsKen Vierra - 1981 - W, Northwestern, 42-0Scott Cate - 1982 - L, San Diego State, 21-17Jordan Wynn - 2009 - W, New Mexico, 45-14 The Utah Utes put it all on the table and went with freshman quarterback Travis Wilson Saturday as the starter. Wilson is just the fourth freshman to start for the Utes since the NCAA restored freshman eligibility in 1972. Considering he was playing in a hostile atmosphere, Wilson didn't do too poorly in the opening minutes. Granted a tip pass set up UCLA's first scoring drive, but overall Wilson was solid. Whether it was his presence or just a change in offensive philosophy, the Utes' offense looked more dynamic. Unfortunately it still isn't translating into a lot of touchdowns, even against UCLA's defense which is giving up an average of 24 points. Utah's defense, on the other hand, is suspect once again. Freshman quarterback Brett Hundley was 7-for-8 for 105 yards in the first quarter as the Utes continued to give up big plays.
