Utah State's school-record avalanche of 13 sacks against San Jose State this past weekend did not go unrecognized.
Freshman lineback Kyler Fackrell was recognized as the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his part of that performance: 11 tackles, 2 sacks, and a fumble forced and recovered.
The Aggies' 49-27 win over the Spartan on Saturday could be much attributed to defense. Aside from the sacks, Fackrell's final fumble recovery set up the last Utah State touchdown. He also broke up a pass on the opening drive of the game that kept San Jose out of the end zone.
Running back Kerwynn Williams and punter Tyler Bennett were nominees for offensive and special teams honors, respectively.
