Joyce Cherry says that because Gov. Mitt Romney "did a lot of blinking during the first presidential debate," that means he was lying ("In the blink of an eye," Forum, Oct. 13).
Blinking rapidly is one of many "tells." It could mean Romney is lying, or it could mean nothing at all. Perhaps he got new contacts and is adjusting to them. Perhaps he scratched his eye earlier and is now blinking uncontrollably.
If this is the way voters decide on a candidate, this country is seriously in trouble. Back in the 1960s, voters especially women decided based on a candidate's looks. (Remember Richard Nixon and the 5 o'clock shadow?)
Blinking, dressing, being more handsome or pretty don't mean a thing. A candidate's platform is what matters.
