The Price Canyon Recreation Area will be closed for the winter beginning Nov. 1.

The Bureau of Land Management Price Field Office said Monday that water service to the area was shut off effective last Friday to protect pipes in the system from freezing and causing damage that would require repairs next spring.

Depending on weather conditions at the time, BLM officials also are considering a temporary closure of the area during the week of Oct. 21 for a prescribed burn. If the plan goes forward, the two-day, 200-acre fire would be set in Price Canyon next to the Price Canyon Campground.

The prescribed burn would be conducted to reduce future risk of wild fires in the region, as well as to restore Ponderosa pine stands and improve wildlife habitat.

Anyone with questions is asked to call the BLM's Price Field Office at 435-636-3600.
