West Valley man sent to jail for posing as a cop

A West Valley City man will spend a year in jail for posing as a police officer and threatening to arrest a man if he did not pay him hundreds of dollars.
William James Calhoun, 21, used a fake badge, handcuffs and a handgun to portray himself as a police officer last October, officials said. During a nine-day period, Calhoun made his victim withdraw hundreds of dollars from an ATM multiple times.
Calhoun pleaded guilty earlier this year in 3rd District Court to two felony counts of theft and a class B misdemeanor charge of impersonating an officer.
Judge Andrew Stone ordered the man to serve a year in the Salt Lake County Jail and complete 100 hours of community service during a 36-month probation.
