Utah Highway Patrol troopers are investigating whether drugs were a factor when a sports car driver fatally crashed through a southern Utah Interstate 15 construction zone, over a dirt embankment and tumbled into a ravine.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said methamphetamine was found in the accident-scene debris after the 2:15 p.m. Monday crash of the northbound red, 1986 Chevrolet Corvette. The car went out of control about 10 miles northeast of St. George, careened off the left side of the freeway, flipping end-over-end before crashing into rocks at the bottom of the ravine.

The driver, identified as 63-year-old Robert Mohlengraft of Cedar City, was dead at the scene, Johnson said.
