A Carbon County man has pleaded guilty to breaking into a Wellington apartment and raping a woman in January.

Dwaine Stacey Shaw, 22, pleaded guilty Monday in 7th District Court to first-degree felony counts of aggravated burglary, rape, forcible sodomy and aggravated kidnapping. As part of a plea deal, two other first-degree felony charges were dropped.

Shaw faces up to life in prison on each count when he is sentenced Nov. 26 by Judge Douglas Thomas.

On Jan. 13, the Wellington woman reported a masked man broke into her apartment and raped her. DNA evidence collected from the crime scene later identified Shaw as the perpetrator.
