Salt Lake City police nab man after clerk assault

A man described as angry and mentally disturbed was arrested after assaulting a gas station convenience store clerk in Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City police Det. Dennis McGowan said the suspect, described in Salt Lake County Jail records as being 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, created a disturbance in the store at 802 S. 900 West that ended with him punching the clerk in the shoulder.

The suspect then jumped into a parked car he found in which the keys had been left by the driver, and drove away. Police located the suspect and the stolen vehicle nearby. He attempted to flee on foot but was soon taken into custody.

The man was booked for suspicion of assault, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen credit cards, fleeing and possession of narcotics.
