A Wyoming father allegedly used a unique approach to fund a marijuana purchase his child's birthday money.
The 28-year-old Evanston man allegedly drove Friday to Ogden with two young children and a teenager to purchase more than a quarter-pound of marijuana from a home there, said Morgan County Chief Deputy Kevin Edwards.
As he was attempting to drive home about 9:20 p.m., a Morgan County deputy pulled over the vehicle and a drug dog indicated there were drugs inside, Edwards said.
Deputies found 130.5 grams of marijuana or about .29 pounds in a backpack inside the vehicle near the father's seat, Edwards said.
The teenager, and the two children, ages 2 and 7, were allowed to continue back home to Wyoming, but police arrested the 28-year-old and took him to jail. When the trio arrived home, the man's wife called deputies to find out what was going on.
The wife revealed to investigators that she had learned the father had taken his daughter's birthday money from her to make the purchase, Edwards said.
He said that much marijuana would typically cost between $300 and $400.
The man was charged in 2nd District Court on Monday with endangerment of a child or vulnerable adult and possessing a firearm by a restricted person, both third-degree felonies; possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.
