Police are investigating a drive-by shooting at a West Valley City gas station that wounded one person.

West Valley City Police Sgt. Amy Maurer said the shooting occurred a few minutes after noon at a Tesoro gas station, 4018 W. 4100 South. A 53-year-old man was hit in the leg and taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

There is apparently no relationship between the victim and the shooter, and it was a matter of his being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Maurer said.

"There appeared to be another intended target," Maurer said.

Maurer said police are trying to find the shooter and the vehicle — a white or silver Toyota Tundra — that carried him.

The incident is still under investigation, Maurer said.
