New clinic set
for Hyde Park
An Intermountain Healthcare clinic is under construction in Hyde Park. The North Cache Valley Clinic at 4088 N. Highway 91 is scheduled to open by July 2013. It is a 17,325-square-foot facility on two acres and is being built by R&O Construction of Ogden. The architect is JRCA Architects.
Nature center gets
The Boeing Co. has donated $4,000 to the Ogden Nature Center to buy a new teepee for its American Indian historical display, which allows visitors to explore the lives of children. It also bought binoculars for the center's birds program, which teaches children how to identify birds and how to recognize bird vocalizations.
Push on for Cedar
City med school
The Cedar City Office of Economic Development wants to establish a school of osteopathic medicine in that community. It says it is beginning the groundwork to open the school in what it describes as a joint effort of community leaders, business leaders, educators, health professionals and residents and students.
3Q profit jump
Goldman Sachs said it recorded a profit in the third quarter and reported earnings of $1.46 billion, or $2.85 a share, compared with a loss of $428 million, or 84 cents a share, in the quarter a year earlier. Goldman's revenue more than doubled, to $8.35 billion.
Kroger Co., which in Utah operates the Smith's Food & Drug stores, is forecasting stronger growth, as company executives outlined plans to expand into new and existing markets, as well as grow the core business. The company expects earnings per share to grow 8 percent to 11 percent, up from the previous forecast of 6 percent to 8 percent.
J&J 3Q income
down, sales up
Third-quarter net income dropped 7 percent for health care giant Johnson & Johnson, to $2.97 billion, or $1.05 per share. Revenue rose 6.5 percent, to $17.05 billion, tied to sales of prescription medicines and medical devices. Consumer health sales declined because of recalls that continued to keep some nonprescription medicines out of stores.
Coke's 3Q profit
up as sales grow
The Coca-Cola Co. says its profit rose 4 percent in the third quarter. Revenue rose 1 percent for the period as the company was hit by unfavorable currency exchange rates. Not including that impact, the company said revenue rose 6 percent. Sales in developed markets such as North America rose 2 percent. In emerging markets such as India they rose 7 percent.
