Utah football: Oregon State coach Mike Riley worried about letdown vs. Utes

With their first 5-0 start since 1939, Oregon State has been labeled as one of the biggest surprises of the 2012 college football season, particularly after the Beavers went 3-9 last year.

Oregon State coach Mike Riley admitted he was among those who has been surprised by his team's turnaround.

"It was pretty much a mystery to me," Riley said Tuesday. "What I said all along, the one thing I noted all along was this team had a real good vibe to it. They worked hard right from spring ball, summer into fall camp. This team worked hard, and I had fun working with them, and they wanted to win."

With three of their last four wins coming on the road, Riley said he worries his team might be set up for a letdown against the Utes now that they'll be back in their own stadium.

Those wins were tough games, he said, and the Beavers should expect another one from the Utes.

"I always warn our team it is a trap you can fall into if you think something different is going to happen, and you can't do that," he said.

So far, the Beavers haven't shown any indication of letting up.

"I worry a lot about that, but so far I don't see anything from our team that makes it real," he said. "This team's demeanor yesterday was good, efficient and a relatively quiet practice. I'm impressed with their attitude and work ethic. I don't even know if they know what they've done to this point. They just get ready to play."

No Oregon State team has started 6-0.

Back at it

Former Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn watched practice from the sideline Tuesday. Wynn had shoulder surgery last week.

"It went well," he said. "Last surgery. I don't know what all they did, but they cleaned a lot up."

Also watching practice was former quarterback Terrance Cain.

Game time set

Kickoff for Utah's home game against Cal on Oct. 27 has been set for 7:45 p.m., and will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
