A report of a natural gas leak reportedly brought a partial, precautionary evacuation of some staff at downtown Salt Lake City's Grand America Hotel Wednesday morning.
Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said several fire units responded to the initial 7:30 a.m. call, but by 8:30 a.m. the situation had been "downgraded," and firefighters were leaving the scene.
Crews had initially found a "trace" of natural gas in and outside of the service area on the east, or State Street side of the hotel and evacuated several employees. No guests were evacuated.
By 9 a.m., staffers had been allowed to return to work and no injuries were reported.
Asay said Questar crews were at the scene trying to determine the location of the potential leak, but it was thought to have originated somewhere outside the hotel.
