Sports briefs: NHL players' union questions new offer

NHL • NHL players' union head Donald Fehr says management's latest proposal would cost his members more than $1.6 billion over six years.

In a letter to players and agents, Fehr said the proposal owners made this week in what they said was an attempt to preserve a full 82-game schedule was an improvement over previous management offers but "represents very large, immediate and continuing concessions by players to owners."

"Simply put, the owners' new proposal, while not quite as Draconian as their previous proposals, still represents enormous reductions in player salaries and individual contracting rights," Fehr said in the letter.

Police investigate Idaho State coach

College football • Idaho State head football coach Mike Kramer is being investigated by police and the university for allegedly shoving senior wide receiver Derek Graves to the ground two weeks ago in an incident caught on video. The university and the Pocatello Police Department on Wednesday separately confirmed investigations. ESPN first reported the incident. Graves lodged a complaint with police on Sunday that he was pushed by Kramer during an Oct. 3 practice.

Lynx surge past Fever, tie Finals

WNBA • Seimone Augustus scored 23 of her 27 points in the second half to help the Minnesota Lynx past the Indiana Fever 83-71 in Minneapolis to even the WNBA Finals at one game apiece. Maya Moore pitched in 23 points, and the defending champion Lynx forced 24 turnovers.
