Valley senior Colby Spencer took control midway through the 1A race and repeated as state champion with a time of 16 minutes, 34 seconds.

Spencer enjoyed a 31-second win.

Monticello captured a second consecutive title when Collin Hatch placed eighth and his teammates stormed home to claim individual places 10 through 15. The Buckaroos' team score of 45 easily turned back the 87 scored by Panquitch.

"We don't have a top-notch runner, but they're like brothers and they just push each other in practice," Monticello coach Jeff Hunt said.
