There was no way Rowland Hall junior Ryan Westermann was making the same mistake twice. He let up near the finish line and lost a state title by less than a second in 2011.
This year, he passed Richfield's Caleb Monson about a mile from the finish, didn't turn around once and drove home for a convincing win.
"I put that photo of the finish [in 2011] up on my wall, and it was just motivation every day before practice, and I kept telling myself, 'Not this year,' " Westermann said.
