FBI offers $5,000 reward for 'Bundled Up Bandit'

Federal and local Utah law enforcement agencies call him the "Bundled Up Bandit," and they're offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the serial bank robber's arrest.

FBI spokeswoman Debbie Dujanovic Bertram said Thursday that the suspect, known for wearing multiple layers of concealing clothing, a knit cap and sunglasses, is believed to have held up three Utah banks in the past month.

The most recent robbery happened on Wednesday when the suspect walked into the Bank of the West, near 2000 East and 6800 South in Cottonwood Heights. Just moments after the bank had opened, he handed a note to a teller demanding cash — and claimed to have both a gun and a bomb.

The teller handed over an unspecified amount of cash and the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect's clothing and methods matched the description of a man who also held up the Zions Bank at 455 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City, twice — on Oct. 9 and Sept. 20.

"In all three bank robberies, the subject has worn a hooded sweatshirt pulled up over a cap, sunglasses, and blue gloves. During each robbery he has presented a threatening note and left with the cash," Bertram stated.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20s, 5-foot-7 and about 170 pounds.

FBI Special Agent in Charge David J. Johnson announced the reward for information on Thursday.
