Fire in Utah County grows to 380 acres

A fire that started burning Saturday afternoon in Utah County's Lake Mountains swelled to more than 300 acres by the end of the day.

The Dutchman fire was burning Saturday afternoon in an area known as Dutchman Ridge, about 6 miles south of Saratoga Springs. No structures were threatened as of 5 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff's office reported. The cause of the blaze was not yet known and is under investigation. The Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands estimated the blaze to be at 380 acres as of 8 p.m. Saturday, when volunteer crews started to call it a night.

Bureau of Land Management Spokeswoman Teresa Rigby said one BLM firefighter was assisting the volunteer crews from Utah County in fighting the fire at one point but said that BLM has since pulled out because the fire is burning on private land. The Utah County Sheriff's Office confirmed that search and rescue crews were simultaneously searching for a female hunter who needed to be rescued near the site of the fire but said she was not in danger from the flames. The medical condition of the hunter was unknown Saturday evening.
