A semi-trailer rig tipped over on Interstate 15 in southern Salt Lake City, reducing early Tuesday morning commuter traffic to a crawl.
Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the big rig was northbound about 4:20 a.m. when it toppled on a curve in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 at mile post 305, near 2250 South. The truck was just transitioning from westbound I-80 onto northbound I-15 when it went out of control.
Johnson said excessive speed for road conditions early rainfall had left the area wet and slick was believed a factor in the accident, but no citations were immediately issued.
The truck was hauling plastic products, but none of the load spilled. It wasn't until 8:30 a.m. that traffic flow through the area had been restored.
The truck's driver was uninjured.
