NHL: N.Y. Islanders plan move to Brooklyn

NHL • Now hockey is coming to Brooklyn.

The New York Islanders have agreed to move to Brooklyn's Barclays Center starting with the 2015-16 season, Islanders owner Charles Wang announced Wednesday. The lease agreement is for 25 years.

Officials in Nassau County, N.Y., have struggled for years to come up with a plan to either renovate or build a new arena to replace the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Sporting KC wins Eastern Conference

Soccer • C.J. Sapong scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from Kei Kamara, and Sporting Kansas City beat the Philadelphia Union 2-1 on Wednesday in Kansas City, Kan., to win its second straight Eastern Conference regular-season title.

Antoine Hoppenot scored an equalizer early in the second half for the Union (10-17-6), but Sapong answered when Kamara found him open on the wing in the 82nd minute.

Serena tops Li at WTA Championships

Tennis • Serena Williams overcame an erratic serve to beat Li Na 7-6 (1), 6-3 on Wednesday for her second win in round-robin matches at the WTA Championships in Istanbul.

Williams had six double-faults and won only 51 percent of points on her first serve. But Li also struggled on serve — there were eight breaks in the first set and three more in the second.

Armstrong may lose marathon result

Running • Lance Armstrong's results erased from the record books will likely include his 868th-place finish at the 2006 New York City Marathon.

Marathon organizer New York Road Runners said in a statement Wednesday it expected to wipe out his times once any potential appeals play out.
