Earning, spending

My question is simple: If I make $50,000 year and continually spend $60,000 year, how can I expect any outcome other than eventual bankruptcy and financial ruin?

If that is how it works for me, why does the federal government think it can continue to spend more than it takes in. It makes no sense.

What am I missing?
