Jazz notes: Randy Foye gets chance in Utah's starting lineup

All fall, Utah Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said he wanted to get Randy Foye extra opportunities at point guard. He played heavy minutes at the position when Mo Williams missed two games with a groin injury, as well as the two backup Jamaal Tinsley missed.

But on Thursday, Foye was bumped into the starting lineup as Williams got the night off and Corbin said he wanted to see Foye alongside the starting lineup.

With Williams, Tinsley and the injured Earl Watson, the Jazz are loaded at point guard. But Foye remains a viable option there depending on matchups and injuries.

Foye spent the first several days of training camp learning the Jazz's offense as a shooting guard, but for most of the rest of the exhibition season has been a point guard alongside Alec Burks in the backcourt.

"He wanted to run one position first, and I thought it took him a little while to get used to playing the point," Corbin said. "Then he did for a little while and enjoed the time he had at point. He will play some point and 2 for us."

In seven games, Foye averaged 7.1 points per game and 2.4 assists. After playing for Minnesota, Washington and the Clippers, he signed a one-year contract with the Jazz in the offseason. Always a combo guard, Foye will be expected to play both positions throughout the year with the Jazz. Corbin said he likes Tinsley playing with the second unit, which includes Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, DeMarre Carroll and Burks.

"He's a true point," Corbin said, "and the guys are used to playing with him a little bit more."

Here and gone

The Jazz finalized their roster after Thursday's game.

They waived Chris Quinn and Darnell Jackson, a pair of training camp invitees with non-guaranteed contracts. The two moves leave the Jazz with 15 players on their roster, which includes Raja Bell. Fifteen is the league maximum.
