Utah forecast: Cooler days, shivering autumn nights

The poet Adelaide Crapsey may have summed up Utah's weekend forecast this way: "Listen ... with faint dry sound, like steps of passing ghosts, the leaves, frost-crisp'd, break from the trees, and fall."

Throughout the state, Saturday will shiver into dawn after overnight temperatures that neared, and in some cases were far below freezing. That pattern mirrors Friday's forecast, when the National Weather Service had a freeze warning in place for southeastern Utah, predicting lows near 20 degrees from Green River running south through Moab, Blanding and Bluff.

Along the Wasatch Front, high temperatures Saturday were to range into the low 50s, with overnight lows in the mid-30s under partly cloudy skies. Southern Utahns will still enjoy early autumn-like weather, though, with highs Saturday in the low 70s and overnight lows in the mid-40s.

Air quality statewide is rated "green," or healthy, through the weekend, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality.

Salt Lake City's high temperature Saturday is expected to hit 52, up from Friday's forecast for 45 degrees; Ogden looks for 51 and 43 degrees, respectively; Provo 55 and 48; Logan 50 and 42; Wendover 52 and 45; Duchesne 51 and 45; Cedar City 59 and 51; St. George 72 and 66; and Moab 60 and 51 degrees.
