Education still suffers

Mark Bouchard, of Gov. Gary Herbert's Education Excellence Commission, states that the governor has "made education his top budget priority" ("Guv's business plan for education," Opinion, Oct. 25).

Do they really think we're going to buy their rhetoric year after year? Every Utah governor from the present to as far back as I remember has spouted that funding for education in Utah is their top priority.

Hello?! Is this why we are now, and have been for a long time, dead last in education funding? It's embarrassing and shameful that we are, again, 51st for per-student expenditures, behind every other state and the District of Columbia.

So, please, give us a break! Your actions and Utah's abysmal record speak louder than your empty words. I hope we will prove our intelligence on Nov. 6.
