A Unified Police Department officer was injured in a crash Saturday while responding to a call near West Valley City.

The officer was driving one of two police cars travelling north on 4000 West when a 17-year-old girl hit the officer's car from the side.

A separate police agency, West Valley Police Department, investigated the crash.

West Valley City Police Sgt. Mike Powell said both of the officers' cars were using lights and sirens as they drove up the road and that most drivers pulled over to let them pass. The 17-year-old driver, who was travelling west on 6200 South, failed to yield to the officers and hit one of the police cars as they came through the intersection, Powell said.

The officer was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Powell said he did not know the officer's latest condition as of late Saturday. The teenage driver was cited with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
