Hearing about a fish kill on one of your favorite sleeper waters is always alarming and such was the case when I first hear about the Bureau of Reclamation shutting down the outlet from Scofield Dam to Lower Fish Creek. I managed to hit this Blue Ribbon Utah fishery one week before the incident and immediately had visions of all the big fish I saw floating. It sounds like the loss was limited to the first mile, a stretch a don't usually bother with, so that was good. Fisheries biologists say fish will move up to take the niches of those fish lost, but the fact that browns were spawning or would be spawning soon, will impact fishing for a while. It really is a shame that the Bureau of Reclamation wouldn't even think to let the Division of Wildlife know about the work, even if it required a clean cutoff and no allowance for a gradual decrease in flow.
