In an attempt to appeal to moderate and undecided voters, Gov. Mitt Romney advocated in the third presidential debate a cautious and rational approach to foreign affairs and national security. He maintains he has moved beyond the excesses of the Bush administration.
This posture has no credibility.
The majority of Romney's national security advisers are Bush-era neocons. They will not be voices of moderation in a Romney administration.
For example, The New York Times recently reported on a memo written by a group of Romney advisers advocating a return to the "enhanced interrogation techniques" (torture) practiced during the Bush administration.
One adviser, Steven Bradbury, headed the Office of Legal Counsel under Bush and back then wrote memos providing legal cover for these procedures.
These procedures are immoral and illegal. The information they elicit is more likely to be useless or harmful than valuable. Moreover, our using them makes it more likely that they will be used against our troops.
If you vote for Romney, do so with a clear understanding that you will be voting for a return to the policies of President George W. Bush.
Do not be taken in by this attempt to obscure his true intent.
