Music for the young

I grew up attending operas, symphonies and chamber music concerts. When I attended Utah Opera's recent production of Giuseppe Verdi's "Il Trovatore," I was surprised how few young people were there.

The opera and symphony are great ways to spend a Friday evening. The resident artists are amazing and energetic. It would be sad to have these incredible art forms die out in Utah simply because young people are not going.

The opera and symphony also bring in talented people from all over the world, like the recent performance by Chinese superstar pianist Lang Lang. Both organizations have extremely inexpensive student tickets for great seats for less than a meal at McDonald's.

So, you young people in Salt Lake, dress up, go to dinner and attend the opera or symphony. Keep these great art forms alive!
