My spiritual friend tries to vote for the candidate she thinks God would have her vote for. So this presidential election, I've been asking, WWJVF? (Who would Jesus vote for?) Would he vote for:
• The candidate who wants to represent the entire nation, or the one who has written off half the nation and in reality represents only the richest 1 percent?
• The candidate whose economic and social policies try to treat everyone equally and provide for the poor, the sick and the elderly, or the one whose economic and social policies would "lade men with burdens grievous to be borne" (Luke 11:46) so that the rich can get richer?
Would the Prince of Peace vote for the candidate who ended the war in Iraq and is bringing the troops home from Afghanistan, or the candidate who seems to want to pick a fight with Iran?
Jesus reserved harsh criticism for hypocrites (see Matthew 23), and Gov. Mitt Romney's hypocrisy knows no bounds. He railed against President Barack Obama for enacting the same health care reform he championed as governor of Massachusetts.
Who would Jesus vote for? This election, the answer is clear.
