Last summer, Utah had a record number of wildfires, with many caused by human stupidity target shooting tops the list. The Saratoga Springs Dump Fire cost $2.1 million, plus the destruction of homes.
Last year, a limited ban on target shooting was put in effect, but violating it is only a misdemeanor, with a maximum $2,500 fine. There should be a statewide ban on target shooting during the fire season, with significant consequences a felony with culprits responsible for the fire's costs and damages.
