Utah football: Utes crush Washington State 49-6

John White scored three touchdowns in the first half and Reggie Dunn returned the opening kickoff of the second half 100 yards for a score as Utah routed Washington State 49-6 on Saturday afternoon at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

The Utes (4-5, 2-4 Pac-12) led 31-0 at halftime and cruised from there. They just missed their first shutout in the Pac-12 when the Cougars scored on the last play of the game.

Dunn, who had two 100-yard returns against California the week before, set a school record with his third against WSU. He has four in his career, which is a first in NCAA history.

Utah's defense held the Cougars (2-7, 0-6) to 116 yards in the first half. WSU eventually pulled its starting quarterback, Jeff Tuel, in the third quarter. He returned to throw a TD pass on the game's final play.

Meanwhile, Utah quarterback Travis Wilson completed 17 of 21 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns in less than three quarters of work. He was also intercepted once.

Utes back John White also played less than three quarters and still rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries with two scores. He also caught an 18-yard pass for a third touchdown.
