Peggy Fletcher Stack's "12 myths about Mormons — From caffeine to the Bible to birth control" (Tribune, Nov. 3) said that Mormons are Christians, because "Jesus Christ is the center of Mormon devotion, belief and practice."

By that standard, the Moonies (members of the Unification Church) are also Christians. They believe that Jesus was the Christ, but he failed, so there was another Christ (Sun Myung Moon), who succeeded.

Christ is the center of their devotion, belief, and practice. Does that make them Christian? Or does it matter what one believes about Christ, not just that one believes in Christ?

Attaching the label "Christ" to something other than the Christ of Christianity does not make the result "Christian."
