In "True patriotism" (Forum, Nov. 4), Charles Peyton said, be patriotic vote.
Oh, please! I voted early, pretending to make a difference. But several crucial issues basic to the shape and survival of our system aren't on the ballot.
Where do I vote against the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, where ungodly amounts of money dwarf into oblivion the common man's vote?
Where is a candidate who, like many of our Founding Fathers, view their stint in office as a temporary contribution of time and talent to the betterment of society, instead of a lifelong career? (If on the ballot, term limits would pass in a landslide).
Where's a candidate who will even enter a conversation on overpopulation, a serious, long-term problem that exacerbates all social ills?
It's hard to see politicians busily and courageously solving problems, other than their own re-elections. It's easy to view them as enablers for the 1 percent, as proxies for the warmongers, oil barons, banksters, who ransack our nation's treasure, trash our environment and skim value off our homes and retirements.
We need to take our country back, all right … from Congress.
