Utes looking for 'signature' win

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham was asked about what the next step for Travis Wilson will be in his development on Monday. He came back with a quick answer, saying Wilson needed a 'signature,' win on the road. Just as quickly, he corrected himself and said the whole team needs the win. The Utes haven't won on the road this year. Breaking that streak against Washington could be tough considering the Huskies, who are playing at CenturyLink Field while Husky Stadium is being renovated, are 4-1 in Seattle. "It's an opportunity to go in against a quality team and take the next step, not only for Travis but for the whole football team this year," Whittingham said. The Utes say playing on the road isn't any different to them, but acknowledged their record shows otherwise. "I think it's a bigger difference in basketball," defensive end Joe Kruger said. "Mainly for us, it's just preparation and schemes and if we play like we've been playing, we'll get through it." Giving the Utes some hope is their improved offensive play. Wilson continues to improve and running back John White has found his groove again. He'll continue to get a lot of carries while backup Kelvin York is out with his ankle sprain. "We're back to something similar how he was running it last year when he was topping 30 carries at times in some weeks," Whittingham said. "But he's a guy who can handle a certain number for us." White, who has had back-to-back 100-yard games, said getting the ball more is fine by him. White said he liked the 1-2 punch the Utes had with himself and York, but said he is finding a rhythm now too. "If they get the ball to me time after time I get a feel for the defense," he said. Whittingham didn't offer any injury updates on York or corner Ryan Lacy, who also missed the Washington State game. - Lya Wodraska
