Song of the Day: Dwight Yoakam's 'Sloop John B'

I have always been partial to the Beacn Boys' version of "Sloop John B," and not just because it is one of the most glorious songs ever produced by Brian Wilson. As a former Coastie, I am always a sucker for a great song about nautical matters.

I have always been partial to Dwight Yoakam, who was a big figure in Bakersfield, California, where I spent a few years before moving to Utah. With his idol Buck Owens, he recorded a hit with "Streets of Bakersfield," and one of the joys oy my life was seeing Buck perform at the Crystal Palace before he died. (As an aside, my wife was working on the Saturday when Buck died, and she knew she was in for a long day of reporting.)
