Ogden • Weber State has two games remaining to at least try to provide some flavor to what has been a bitter season.
WSU has never lost to Northern Colorado, the opponent for Saturday's final home game of 2012, which is also Senior Day for the Wildcats. However, at this point, nothing is taken for granted.
"The seniors are extremely disappointed," WSU coach Jody Sears said. "But the mood is good. There is a great look in their eye."
Sears' message, as Weber State (1-8, 1-5 Big Sky) prepares for the Bears (3-6, 2-4), is simple:
"Don't go weak on me now. Keep moving forward."
Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
Weber State dropped a 24-21 home decision to Montana last Saturday in typical fashion. The Wildcats had a 14-10 lead, but were done in by three turnovers and a defense that allowed more than 200 yards of rushing.
Quarterback Mike Hoke was also sacked four more times. The strong-armed Wildcat quarterback has been on his back more than any quarterback in the Big Sky Conference.
The Wildcats have given up 33 sacks this season, which is the third-highest total of sacks allowed by any team in the country. WSU is being sacked an average of 3.7 sacks per game.
"I think collectively as a team the Montana game was the best game we have played all season," Sears said. "I was extremely proud of our team with our effort and energy that we showed all season.
"We still made some mistakes, and we have to work on cleaning those up. We weren't able to make some stops when we needed to. We just have to keep working."
Anthony Morales gets defensive
Weber State junior linebacker Anthony Morales posted a career-high 23 tackles against Montana, including eight unassisted. The 23 tackles were the most in a game by a Wildcat since Matt McFadden had 23 in 2001. Morales now leads the Big Sky and ranks fifth in the nation in tackles at 11.9 per game.
