Mitt's not fit

I must disagree with Helga Pawelka's proposal that President Barack Obama appoint Gov. Mitt Romney as our nation's ambassador to France ("Romney to France," Forum, Nov. 11).

From the beginning of his campaign, Romney misrepresented facts and lied to the American people. Even when statements were proven to be outright false, Romney continued to restate them in speeches and on TV ads.

We all heard Romney label 47 percent of his fellow citizens as those "dependent on government" who see themselves as "victims." His illusive economic plan favored the most wealthy while eliminating programs for ordinary Americans.

He would not show his tax returns, and his so-called blind trust was not so blind after all. And the Romneys still have investments in offshore tax havens and companies that outsource to China.

Romney's social agenda would have set back women's rights, gay rights and racial equality. When voter suppression threatened our very democracy, Romney stood silent.

Romney had his chance at diplomacy during the Olympics in London, and he embarrassed himself and his country. He is not an American we can be proud of, much less one to represent our country to the world.
