It's just sex, folks

I don't want to sound like I'm justifying adultery. I don't. But does anyone believe that Gen. David Petraeus, who just resigned as director of the CIA, would sell his country down the river to prevent a scandal?

We are now going to waste millions of dollars, thousands of column inches, who knows how many hours of Congress' time (like there might not be a few more pressing issues for it to devote its time to), and also waste a brilliant, accomplished and invaluable resource to our country — all over sex. It's just sex.

If an illicit, ill-advised liaison disqualified a person from public service, how many of our country's presidents and members of Congress in history would have had to leave office? In many countries, this is a non-issue. Maybe some day this country may advance to the 19th century as well.

I'll say it again. It's just sex!
