Rain, mountain snow coming to N. Utah

Rain and mountain snow are coming to northern Utah, which can expect high temperatures in the low- to mid-50s and overnight lows in the 30s. Southern Utahns can count on highs in the 50s to lower 60s with overnight temperatures in the 30s.

A weak storm system will push a cold front through northern Utah on Sunday afternoon through early Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City. The northern Utah valleys can expect rain as the front moves through.

The same precipitation will fall as snow in mountains, as far down as 6,000 to 6,500 feet, from Sunday night into Monday morning. Meteorologists predict that the northern Utah mountains will see four to eight inches of snow from the storm, with locally higher amounts.

The Ogden and Salt Lake-area mountains have a "moderate" risk of dangerous snowslides, a risk designation that will also include the peaks in the Logan region on Sunday, according to the Utah Avalanche Center. The rest of the state has low risk designations.

The Utah Air Quality Division's predicts "Green," or healthy breathing conditions statewide for Sunday and Monday.

Salt Lake City looks for a high of 55 on Sunday, then down 2 degrees on Monday; Ogden expects 53 and 52, respectively; Provo 53 and 52; Logan 50 both days; Wendover 49s; Duchesne 47s; Cedar City 50s; St. George 63s; and Moab 56 and 55 degrees.
