San Jose, Calif. • The rain has stayed away, but San Jose State quarterback David Fales has showed up in a big way against BYU and its vaunted defense Saturday.
San Jose State leads BYU 20-7 at halftime on a chilly, overcast night at Spartan Stadium.
Fales has completed 18 of 23 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns.
The Spartans scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, driving 65 yards on their first series, 75 on their second and 71 on their third.
BYU's Daniel Sorensen intercepted a pass to stop SJSU's fourth drive, but the Cougars were stopped at midfield on fourth-and-1, and SJSU recaptured the momentum.
BYU's only score came on its first possession. The Cougars drove 79 yards and capped the drive with Jamaal Williams' 16-yard touchdown run.
