Pleasant View girl dies after freak impalement accident

The 11-year-old Pleasant View girl who was impaled in a freak accident over the weekend has died.

Nichole Gail Clark died Monday at McKay-Dee Hospital Center, according to hospital spokesman Chris Dallin.

Earlier in the day, Pleasant View police Sgt. Jerry Anderson confirmed he had been told by an unidentified member of the girl's family that doctors had reported the girl was "brain dead."

"I understand the family is planning to remove her from life support sometime later today," Anderson said.

The accident reportedly occurred Saturday night as the girl ran up the stairs of her home with a rod from a window blinds set.

The girl fell and the rod pierced her chest and exited her neck. The girl reportedly pulled the rod out, causing further damage. Doctors operated to repair the damage, but she did not regain consciousness.

Dallin said a bank account has been opened in the name of "Nichole Gail Clark" at US Bank offices to help the family with medical expenses.
