Re "Utah delegation has a plan to avert fiscal cliff: delay" (Tribune, Nov. 16):

After hearing for over a year both that the sky was falling over the debt we are leaving to future generations and that the nation was hanging by a thread and in need of a savior on a white horse, the tone now seems to be changing.

Now, the newly re-elected Utah delegation says: "The prudent move would be to avoid the cliff by extending the status quo" (Rep. Jim Matheson), "short term extension" (Sen. Mike Lee), "six months" (Rep. Rob Bishop) and "a full year" (Sen. Orrin Hatch).

Suppose we go along with this new direction of postponement. I'd like for our members of Congress to then please tell us what they will do with the coming year in Congress, besides raise funds for their next election?

It is past time for them to do their job: Fix the problem now, or maybe the president will decide that there is some land around Canyonlands that he needs to protect.

No more excuses!
