Corroon not candid

In "County tax increase needed" (Opinion, Nov. 18), Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon called the 17.5 percent property tax increase unavoidable. He stated that not enacting the increase would lead to "the closure of public facilities including recreation centers, senior centers, and libraries."

However, Corroon did not see fit to share this information with the public before voters decided whether to add three new parks and purchase lands for additional future parks. Had we known that we cannot currently afford to service the parks we already have, we may not have decided to add three new ones.

The mayor's definition of "open, honest and ethical" and "a transparent and efficient government" is different from mine.
