Apparent suicide briefly shuts down FrontRunner in SLC

Salt Lake City police briefly closed down a stretch of FrontRunner commuter rail near North Temple late Tuesday morning.

Utah Transit Authority spokesman Gerry Carpenter said he understood officers found a body under a nearby viaduct, the apparent victim of a suicide.

The body was not on the tracks themselves, he said.

About 11:40 a.m., at the request of police, UTA closed down the FrontRunner tracks in the area. The closure, about 10 minutes long, did not result in any major delays for commuters, Carpenter said.

Police Detective Rick Wall said construction workers had called 911 reporting a 67-year-old man in his had apparently jumped from an overpass.

Given that the case was being investigated as a suicide, police were not releasing the man's name.
