On Dec. 1, Democratic Party precinct delegates in Senate District 2 will be entrusted with the difficult task of selecting one individual to assume the Utah Senate seat being vacated by Salt Lake County Mayor-elect Ben McAdams ("McAdams resigns from Legislature; crowded field vying for spot," Tribune, Nov. 14).

Few in politics have impressed me like outgoing Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon. He has served the constituents of the county with aplomb, dedication and integrity; his record speaks for itself.

I am struck most by his insistence, even stubbornness, to never waver from doing what he felt best for Salt Lake County. I have not always agreed with his positions, but I have always respected them.

As a small-business owner, as an advocate for education, children, equality rights and the arts, as an outdoor enthusiast, a father, husband, son, brother, neighbor and, most important, a proud native Utahn, I have found that for the past eight years, Mayor Corroon has been a strong voice for my concerns.

We would be remiss if we did not give him the opportunity to serve on the behalf of all Utahns.
