Salt Lake County is seeking applicants to fill three open positions on its nine-member Bicycle Advisory Committee.

Dec. 3 is the deadline to apply for a position. The committee reviews and offers input on all bicycle-related proposals and projects to a variety of Salt Lake County departments, including parks and recreation, planning and development, engineering and law enforcement.

Meetings are held 5 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the County Government Center, 2100 S. State St.

Jim Braden, a spokesman for County Mayor Peter Corroon, said the committee's collaboration with the county's Public Works Department has improved the integration of bicycles and pedestrians into "an automobile-centric transportation system."

Bike lanes have been added, traditional bike routes have been resurfaced and more signage has been installed along routes in unincorporated areas, he said.

In addition, the county recently hired George Deneris as its first "active transportation coordinator," focused primarily on bicycle issues.
