A female passenger in a stolen car was arrested for alleged drug possession and obstruction of justice after she falsely claimed she was pregnant and needed to be taken to a hospital because her unborn baby "may be in trouble."

A Saratoga Springs police officer pulled over the vehicle on Nov. 20, and after arresting the male driver and noticing the passenger had numerous warrants, he asked to search the car. After finding a makeup bag containing drug paraphernalia, the officer concluded the bag belonged to the female passenger, whose four-year-old child also was in the car.

When the officer said he was going to take the woman to jail and call child welfare authorities, she claimed to five months pregnant and having contractions. She was taken to a hospital but an ultrasound found, in fact, she was not pregnant. In addition to drug and paraphernalia possession, the woman was held on suspicion of child endangerment and obstruction of justice.
