Cast your vote in The Tribune Choice Awards

The presidential elections may be over, but you've still got a chance to exercise your vote and select winners of the first annual Salt Lake Tribune Choice Awards.

This online poll recognizes Utah's best in dining, nightlife, arts and culture, recreation and destinations. To vote, visit before Saturday, Dec. 15.

Choose from the list of nominees we created — or write in your favorite. Winners in each category will be announced in early February in The Tribune and In magazine.

Here are some details about the nominees in our three restaurant categories: Utah Originals, Worth the splurge and Family friendly.

Utah Originals

Bluebird Cafe, Logan • Located on historic Main Street, this restaurant features an authentic marble soda fountain and a menu of home-style favorites.

Cannella's, Salt Lake City • Reliable and reasonably priced food and a genial staff has kept this Italian restaurant in business more than 30 years.

Crown Burger, Salt Lake City • Famous for its pastrami burgers, onion rings and fry sauce, it also serves Greek-American specialties such as gyros.

Hires Big H, Salt Lake City • The nostalgic home of the Hires Big H burger and frosty mugs of root beer where carhops will still bring your food to your car.

Kitty Pappas Steakhouse, Woods Cross • After 65 years in business, Kitty Pappas is still in the kitchen cooking massive steaks, fried egg burgers and delicious cakes.

Lamb's Grill, Salt Lake City • This downtown institution still can boast of its charming wood booths, a sumptuous bar and a pleasingly unpretentious menu — plus there's a new chef at this 93-year-old Main Street tradition.

Maddox Ranch House, Brigham City • This family-run restaurant is famous for its fried chicken, turkey steaks and warm rolls with raspberry butter.

Mandarin, Bountiful • Chefs from Hong Kong and San Francisco prepare beef with green beans, five-taste shrimp and Mediterranean lamb, a nod to the Davis County institution's Greek owners.

Market Street Broiler/Grill • This restaurant started flying fresh seafood into land-locked Utah long before it become the norm.

Ruth's Diner, Salt Lake City • Nothing beats breakfast — and the mile-high biscuits — served at this diner up Emigration Canyon.

Worth the spurge

Chez Betty, Park City • Great service and consistently good food in an unpretentious atmosphere.

Forage, Salt Lake City • The small, dinner-only venue specializes in impeccable technique, imagination and carefully selected ingredients.

Glitretind, Park City • Located in the Stein Eriksen Lodge, this restaurant offers excellent service and an extensive wine list.

Log Haven, Millcreek Canyon • This rustic restaurant offers a memorable setting, fresh mountain air and New American cuisine.

Silver, Park City • The restaurant's opulent, modern vibe, and an excellent New American menu, raises the bar for fine dining in Park City.

Takashi • Incredible attention to detail in the kitchen makes this one of Salt Lake City's best — and busiest — places for sushi.

Talisker on Main • Innovative and expertly prepared food is made with local and seasonal ingredients, served by a professional staff.

The Aerie, Snowbird • This recently remodeled eatery combines New American cuisine with equal parts refinement and creativity and beautiful mountain views.

The Farm, Park City • This sophisticated restaurant at the Canyons is all about fresh local ingredients.

The New Yorker, Salt Lake City • The food and service is first-rate at this downtown restaurant with an exclusive feel and decor.

Family friendly

Beastro at Hogle Zoo, Salt Lake City • Located east of the elephant exhibit and north of the monkeys, this new eatery makes just about everything from scratch, including hand-tossed pizzas, panini sandwiches, fresh — not frozen — hamburgers and macaroni and cheese.

Blue Plate Diner, Salt Lake City • Kids can tuck into corn cakes for breakfast or three kinds of fries or classic milkshakes.

Bonsai Japanese Steak House and Sushi, Salt Lake City • Kids get a kick out of the knife-wielding chefs, as well as food that's flipped and set aflame before their eyes.

Daly's Pub and Rec, Park City • Located in the Montage, this restaurant offers fine pub fare and a wide variety of games, such as bowling, darts, shuffleboard, arcade games, Wii, pool tables, and flat-screen TVs showing sporting events.

Left Fork Grill, Salt Lake City • A classic diner, but not a greasy-spoon. Dishes such as wiener schnitzel, open-faced turkey sandwiches and corned beef hash are made with exceptional execution. There also are least six kinds of pies daily.

Melty Way, Midvale • This fast-casual sandwich shop offers a new spin on grilled cheese.

Pat's Barbecue, Salt Lake City • Barbecue, in all its finger-licking glory, is the perfect food for kids, and Pat's is one of the best places to get smokey ribs, brisket and chicken.

Red Iguana, Salt Lake City • The lively atmosphere and consistently good Mexican food are reason to bring the kids. There are no chicken fingers here; instead try a quesadilla, burrito, taco or flauta, a rolled and fried meat-filled tortilla.

Rusted Sun PIzzeria, Salt Lake City • This welcoming pizzeria, with its great vibe and delicious pizza, is great for kids.

The Pagoda, Salt Lake City• This updated restaurant serves lunch combos in bento boxes. Try the Noda-San — vegetable and shrimp tempura, chicken or beef teriyaki, four-piece spicy tuna roll and rice.
