Mall not festive

Maybe I'm just getting old and it now takes a lot to impress me, but I was not wowed by the Christmas decorations at City Creek Center.

Because of the story "Downtown Salt Lake City gets new holiday look" (Tribune, Nov. 12), when my friends and I went to see the lights on Temple Square, we ventured a block south to check out Salt Lake's new festive mall. Disappointing. Tasteful, even pretty, but nothing to make a trip from the suburbs for.

I guess I expected or hoped to be overwhelmed by lights, lavish Victorian greenery and unique displays. I wanted overloaded sights and sounds to get me into the Christmas spirit, to feel like shopping. Didn't happen. Too understated.

Definitely catch Temple Square. Don't feel bad about missing City Creek Center.
